Major General Henrik Berg was born in Exeter, Ontario, Canada 29 February 1964.
After joining the Royal Danish Army in 1983 as a volunteer conscript in the infantry, he was promoted Sargent and assigned to the Royal Danish Lifeguard in 1984. He graduated from the Army Military Academy as a First Lieutenant in 1987.
Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Danish Life Regiment where he served as a platoon leader and, from 1990, as Executive Officer Headquarters Company. During this period, he served a tour of 6 months as platoon leader in the UN mission in Cyprus.
He was promoted to Captain in 1992 and was assigned as a Company Commander within the Danish Life Regiment. In 1994, he served a tour of 8 months as a Company Commander in the UN mission in Croatia. In 1996, he was assigned to the Danish Defence Intelligence Service. During this assignment, he served a tour as operations officer in the Allied Counter Intelligence Unit, Sarajevo, Bosnia and a tour as operations officer in the Allied Military Intelligence Battalion, Tuzla, Bosnia.
In 1998-1999, he attended the United States Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas as well as the United States Defence Resource and Management course at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California.
Upon return to Denmark, he was promoted Major and assigned to Corps Headquarters Eastern Land Command as Chief Planning Branch (G5). Upon restructure of the Royal Danish Army, he was assigned to the Army Operational Command as Chief of Training Branch (G7). In 2002, he was assigned to the Executive Office of the Chief of Defence, Denmark.
He was promoted Lieutenant Colonel in 2004 and was assigned to the Royal Danish Lifeguard as battalion commander and served a tour of 7 months as commander of the Danish Battlegroup Iraq.
In 2007, he was assigned to the Danish Defence Intelligence Service where he was promoted through the ranks to Brigadier General in 2019. In 2020, he was assigned to the Danish Home Guard as Chief of Staff.
He was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff Support at NATO Joint Forces Command Norfolk from 1 September 2024.
