Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) Chiefs of Defence Visit JFC Norfolk

April 10, 2025, Norfolk, VA - The Chiefs of Defence (CHODS) from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden met as part of the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) in Norfolk, Virginia on April 9 and 10, 2025.

The CHODS took the opportunity to visit Joint Force Command Norfolk where they were briefed on the Commands mission as it relates to the Arctic and High North. The briefing also included the operational growth of the Command, from mission requirements, personnel and infrastructure. Each country plays a key role in NATO and directly supports the JFC Norfolk mission.

NATO membership offers cooperation in the defence of the Alliance, while the complimentary overall objective of NORDEFCO, on the military level, is cooperation across the entire range of defence structures of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. NORDEFCO offers regional perspectives on defence which directly enhances operational capability and security.

“The fact that NORDEFCO held its meetings in Norfolk, Virginia demonstrates the operational importance that JFC Norfolk has for these NATO countries,” said Vice Admiral Doug Perry. “The expertise and knowledge that NORDEFCO brings is of great advantage, not just to JFC Norfolk, but the whole of NATO. I look forward to continuing to strengthen and expand upon the relationship and co-operation between JFC Norfolk, NATO and NORDEFCO.”
